Halifax is a lively harbor city and each year features an extensive calendar of events, festivals and year-round activities, which appeal to both locals and visitors in the Halifax area. Canada Day, at the beginning of July, is always a major event in Halifax and comprises numerous parties, parades, concerts and a spectacular fireworks display.

Other notable seasonal festivals and community events in the Halifax area include the Atlantic Jazz Festival in July, the Halifax Highland Games and Scottish Festival in July, the Annual Halifax International Buskers Festival each August, the Maritime Fall Fair every October, and the Annual Port of Wines Festival in November.
